Smart loot in D3 essentially blocks me from trying other characters. Once I reach it, I can try different gear or builds (which may be worse in certain aspect of the game, such as key finding or clearing cows, but better in another), not farm again and again and hope for a 2% more DPS (or better GRift time, measured in milliseconds). The fact that D3 has shitty itemization (only sets and legendaries are viable) makes it even worse. The sole existence of the leaderboard has such a detrimental effect (and no, removing it would not help, as unofficial ones would quickly emerge). Just look at the GRift leaderboard, from the top down: every single character is a cookie cutter copy of the top one: most, if not all items, skills and runes are the same. There is much worse aspect of (nigh-)infinite progression: it promotes the meta, effectively eradicating the less effective, but fun builds. In D3, I have never found a single item that made me go, "this is so unique and rare I got to make a new character to use it." These super rare items are the best because when you are farming on a character and find a Dweb, you instantly think man I want to make a necro and use this super rare item. D2 at least has those super rare chase items like High Runes, Dweb, Griffins Etc. There isn't some magical thing that makes your grind meaningful in any ARPG. It means no different to me as they already have their end game gear, and the only difference is their stats and the monsters stats are higher. That is meaningless, if someone tells me they can solo a GR 80, GR90, or GR100. That is just doing the same shit with bigger numbers. How is the higher paragon or higher gem level any different than higher level in D2's ladder? Because in D3, you can just keep upping the dmg and health of monsters? That isn't meaningful progression. How can you like D3's end game then? you can get fully geared in a day. Last updated at 14:00:17 UTC Weekly Help Desk RAGE Loot Thread Trade Thread
